The 6th graders have been working very hard on their Topic 4 math projects! The students have the choice of four different projects to complete, and they can choose to work with a partner or individually. Fitness Fun - The students needed to keep an exercise log for 7 days for completing burpees. On Day 1 they needed to time how long it took them to complete 5 burpees and then increase the amount by 5 each day for seven days. In their exercise log, they needed to predict how long it would take them to complete the set of burpees and then record the actual results. After the data was collected, they graphed and analyzed their data. Step It Up! - In this project, the students made a model of a staircase following certain rules. The staircase needed to follow a linear pattern using identical blocks. They needed to keep track of the number of blocks needed for each step, organize the data in a table, and model the pattern using an equation. Plan a Race - The students needed to research an animal to race against a snail which moves at an average speed of 0.66 inches per minute. They needed to determine a race distance and give the slower animal a head start. The race needed to be represented using a graph, table, or equation. Using the representations created, they needed to predict which animal would win the race and organize the results on a poster.

Gresham has a large group of about 20 new and continuing middle school knitters (here are a few of them). We are still making great use of the supplies the community has donated over the past few years, but we are getting a bit low on bulky yarn. If you have any bulky or thicker yarn you'd be willing to donate, we'd be happy to have it (or any other knitting supplies you would like to share). Thanks so much for your generosity toward our knitting club; we're very grateful!

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the MS Girls Basketball game today versus White Lake. They have too many girls out sick and injured. No practice as well.
